Arrivals of turmeric to the Erode markets decreased as there was no improvement in prices. “On Wednesday, 1,950 bags of the spice arrived for sale. Such decline in arrival is due to the decrease of the price by ₹500 a quintal within three days. Further, the buyers prefer only limited stock for their local demand,” said RKV Ravishankar, a trader. Only medium variety turmeric arrived for sale and the prices were down by ₹100 a quintal. At the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society, all the 408 bags were sold for a higher price due to quality. At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association sales yard, the finger variety was sold at ₹5,574-8,809 a quintal; the root variety at ₹5,225-7,809 a quintal. Of the arrival of 913 bags, 407 were traded.
At the Regulated Marketing Committee, the finger turmeric went for ₹7,169-8,289 a quintal and the root variety at ₹6,599-7,793. Of the arrival of 336 bags, 262 were sold.
At the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger turmeric fetched ₹7,358-8,699 a quintal; the root variety ₹6,899-7,969. All the 408 bags were sold.
