Spot turmeric prices edged down at Erode markets on Monday but the demand for the hybrid variety increased.
“Local traders received some upcountry orders and so are keen on buying the hybrid variety and purchased all the 400 bags,” said RKV Ravishankar, President, Erode Turmeric Merchants Association.
The hybrid finger turmeric lost ₹200 a quintal and the other local varieties were down ₹100.
At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association sales yard, the finger turmeric fetched ₹4,189-6,577 a quintal and the root variety ₹4,166-5,800.
Salem Hybrid: The finger variety was sold at ₹5,519-7,100; the root variety ₹5,349-6,007. Of the 502 bags that arrived, only 76 were sold.
At the Regulated Market Committee, the finger turmeric went for ₹5,699-6,470; the root variety ₹5,439-6,259. Of the 913 bags on offer, 782 were traded.
At the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹5,899-6,559; the root variety ₹5,339-6,199. All the 383 bags found takers.
At the Gobichettipalayam Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger turmeric fetched ₹5,329-6,699; the root variety ₹5,319-6,249. All the 86 bags were sold.
