Jeera prices advanced by 1.81 per cent to Rs 16,325 per quintal in futures trading on Wednesday as speculators enlarged positions on the back of rising demand in the spot market. Besides, reports of lower output supported the upside.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, jeera for delivery in January gained Rs 290, or 1.81 per cent, to Rs 16,325 per quintal with an open interest of 678 lots.

In a similar fashion, the spice for delivery in February traded higher by Rs 135, or 0.83 per cent, to Rs 16,395 per quintal in 14,868 lots.

Analysts said speculators enlarged positions on the back of rising demand in the spot market which kept jeera prices higher at futures trade.
