Spot prices of turmeric increased by ₹200 a quintal at Erode markets for the local variety.

“Because of the slump yesterday, the turmeric grower farmers brought limited stock today. Of the arrival of 4,500 bags, more than 1,300 bags are fine variety local turmeric. Traders those who received some upcountry orders purchased the same by quoting higher price. Thehybrid varieties ruled flat,” said RKV Ravishankar, President, Erode Turmeric Merchants Association.

On Thursday, the finger variety in the Regulated Market Committee and Erode Cooperative Marketing Society were up ₹200 a quintal and the hybrid root variety was down ₹50.

At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association sales yard, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹4,177-6,577 a quintal; the root variety ₹4,136-5,961.

Salem Hybrid: The finger variety went for ₹5,477-7,266 and the root variety ₹5,083-6,239. Of the 1,230 bags on offer, 387 were sold.

At the Regulated market Committee, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹5,149-6,744 and the root variety ₹5,103-6,289. Of the 981 bags put up for sale, 923 were traded.

At the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger turmeric went for ₹5,589-6,699; the root variety ₹5,389-6,219. All the 825 bags found takers.
