Only 50 per cent of the turmeric was sold in Erode markets.
“The turmeric farmers brought 8,500 bags for sale. Only medium and low quality turmeric was arrived. The traders procured 4,300 bags ; all the 2,000 bags of new turmeric and 200 bags of Salem Turmeric,” said RKV Ravishankar, President, Erode Turmeric Merchants Association.
The price of the old turmeric was down ₹100 a quintal The Salem Turmeric was sold at ₹10,500. At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association sales yard, the finger variety old turmeric was sold at ₹4,374-8,368 a quintal and the root variety ₹4,017-7,561.
New turmeric variety: The finger variety went for ₹6,389-8,559; the root variety ₹6,200-7,814. Of a total arrival of 1,935 bags, 760 were sold.
At the Regulated Market Committee, the finger turmeric fetched ₹7,289-8,299; the root turmeric ₹6,309-7,569. Of the 1,833 bags offered, 1,133 were traded.
At the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹7,319-8,319 and the root variety ₹6,709-7,599. Of the arrival of 1,669 bags, 1,559 found takers.
