Taiwanese stocks rose 0.89 per cent on Monday, led by gains in memory chip makers and computer manufacturers.

As of 0237 GMT, the main TAIEX index rose 81.96 points to 9,300.03, largely in line with other regional bourses, after closing flat on Saturday in a special trading session.

The electronics sub-index was up 1.16 per cent, led by memory chip makers Inotera Memories Inc and Nanya Technology Corp, which rose 4.79 and 6.45 per cent, respectively, and helped the overall semiconductor sub-index gain 1.71 per cent.

Shares in computer manufacturers also firmed up, led by global brand Asustek Computer Inc, up 2.38 per cent, and its main contract assembler Pegatron Corp, which rose 1.39 per cent.

Solar shares faltered, however, with Solartech Energy Corp and Neo Solar Power Corp shedding 2.09 and 2.41 per cent, respectively.

Separately, Taiwan is considering raising the limit on daily swings in a stock to 10 per cent from the current 7 per cent, an official at the island's Financial Supervisory Commission told Reuters.

The Taiwan dollar was down T$0.01 to stand at T$31.741 to the US dollar.
