The rupee was trading weak by 26 paise at 62.67 in the evening session due to rise in the American currency’s value against other global currencies amid month-end demand for dollar from importers.
After opening weak by 17 paise to 62.58 against the dollar at the Interbank Foreign Exchange market, the rupee further fell to 62.68 before being quoted at 62.67 at 4.45 pm local time.
The domestic unit hovered in the range of 62.52 and 62.68 in the evening trade.
Forex dealers attributed the fall in the rupee to the dollar’s strength against other global currencies and sustained capital outflows but a strong domestic stock market capped the rupee’s fall.
The rupee had recovered by 26 paise to end at 62.41 against the dollar on Friday.
Meanwhile, the benchmark BSE Sensex soared 517.22 points or 1.88 per cent to 27,975.86 at the closing session on Monday.
