Though the total funds raised through public markets in 2013-14 was up 13 per cent at ₹71, 320 crore against ₹63,056 crore in the previous fiscal, the amount raised through equities was 36 per cent lower at ₹29,381 crore compared with ₹46,073 crore raised in the previous fiscal, according to a report by Prime Database.
However, compared to equity issues, the year saw much greater activity in the public bonds market.
Of the total amount of ₹71,320 crore this fiscal, 35 issues raised ₹41,989 crore, up over 147 per cent compared to ₹16,982 crore raised last year through 20 issues.
“This market was initially monopolised by NBFCs but towards the later part of the year, the investors also witnessed tax-free bond issuances from Government companies,” added the Prime Database report.
