Gold prices fell 0.09 per cent to Rs 26,911 per 10 grams at the futures trade today as participants reduced their positions even as the precious metal rose overseas.
On the Multi Commodity Exchange, gold for delivery in October eased by Rs 24 or 0.09 per cent to Rs 26,911 per 10 grams in a business turnover of 449 lots.
Likewise, the metal for delivery in far-month December shed Rs 21 or 0.08 per cent to Rs 27,051 per 10 grams in 62 lots.
Market analysts said trimming of positions by speculators mainly put pressure on gold prices at the futures trade here but a firming trend in precious metals in global market limited the losses.
Globally, gold rose 0.4 per cent to $1,226.90 an ounce in Singapore.
