Power bourse IEX today said its daily traded volume in the day-ahead segment crossed 100 million units on April 25.

IEX is the leading exchange for trading electricity in the country.

“The 101.93 million units traded volumes in the Day-Ahead Market at IEX on Thursday was 175 per cent higher than the electricity traded in this segment on the corresponding day of 2012, which was 37.12 million units,” IEX said in a statement.

According to the exchange, the spurt in trading volumes was due to the rise in electricity demand from western and northern states.

Average price of electricity sold ranged from Rs 2.63 per unit in the eastern and north eastern regions to Rs. 8.47 per unit in the southern region.

IEX noted that the high prices in the southern region were due to limited transmission connectivity with the rest of the country.
