Super cyclone Vardah is expected to make a landfall near Chennai today. It was located around 440 km east of Chennai yesterday morning, according to IMD. With a wind speed of 130 to 140 km/hr, Vardah will bring rainfall to places around South Coastal Andhra Pradesh, North Coastal Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.

UN Secretary General designate Antonio Guterres to be sworn in today and President of the UN General Assembly Peter Thomson will administer the Oath of Office. Guterres will succeed Ban-Ki Moon as the seventh chief of the United Nations.

Indonesian President Joko Widodo will be arriving in India on a two-day visit today. Indonesia is considering of signing a bilateral trade pact with India and sees cooperation in the fields of defence, security and antiterrorism. Widodo is the first Indonesian President to visit India after former President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono’s trip in 2011.
