Punjab and Goa go to the polls to elect new governments on Saturday. Both states have a single phase of polling, with counting of votes on March 11. Goa is witnessing a four-cornered fight with the BJP, Congress, AAP and Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party-led alliance vying for the mandate to rule. In Punjab it is three-horse race between the SAD-BJP, Congress and AAP.

The iconic Mughal Gardens of the Rashtrapati Bhavan will open to the public from Sunday. The beautiful lawns, comprising the spiritual garden, herbal garden, bonsai garden and musical garden, will remain open from February 5-March 12 (except on Mondays which are maintenance days) between 9:30 am-4:00 pm.

The Home Ministry is to hold talks with the Manipur government and the United Naga Council (UNC) on Sunday to end the crisis which has crippled Manipur since November. The UNC economic blockade on two national highways has led to a shortage of essential commodities in the state.

About 500 bulls would be used in the Jallikattu to be held at Avaniapuram in Madurai on Sunday. Around 300 sportsmen are expected to take part in the bull-taming sport.

The 18th Conference of Association of Indian College Principals will open in Coimbatore on Saturday. The meet will deliberate on the new Education Policy, draft of which was released by the Centre recently. The proceedings of the two-day international conference on the Role of Higher Education in National/International Development, will be submitted to the Ministry of Higher Education and Tamil Nadu government.
