The Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar on Saturday said the government has accepted the TSR Subramaniam committee report for consideration and its recommendations will be discussed further.

Talking to reporters at the Indian Women’s Press Corp, he said, “The high-powered committee has submitted a report which we have accepted for consideration. The acceptance is for consideration and not in totality and we are now discussing it. It is now in the public domain and the standing committee is also doing the examination. We want some good suggestions.”

The Standing Committee on Environment and Forests on Friday has started consultations on the TSR Subramanian Committee Report, and has met with civil society bodies.

Meanwhile, Javadekar said that the high-powered committee was appointed as after a certain period of time, one needs to review whether the intended benefit has been accrued and whether the intended development or environment protection has happened or not and what are the bottlenecks.

He said the Enviornment Ministry which had got the tag of a ”roadblock ministry” in the previous government, has seen a saga of turnaround as the Ministry is focusing on sustainable development and development without destruction and delay.

The Ministry will also focus on aggressive afforestation and focus on creating a carbon sink.

On setting up of the “National Adaptation Fund” for climate change, the Minister said the government is giving it priority and will come out with guidelines in the next fifteen days. He said that the Ministry is already putting up a mechanism and has discussed action plans with states.

In the last Budget, the government had allocated Rs 100 crore for establishment of NAF for climate change. "We hope for more funds in the next Budget," he added.
