Padma Vibhushan and Dada Saheb Phalke awardee Akkineni Nageswara Rao passed away in Hyderabad at the age of 91, around 2:10 a.m. on Wednesday. He was ailing with cancer.
Born on September 20, 1923, he strode like a colossus in Telugu Cinema and acted in 256 Telugu films.
ANR is fondly called the Tragedy King of Telugu cinema, through he gave milestone performances in romantic dramas such as Laila Majnu, Anarkali, Batasari, Prem Nagar, Premabhishekam , and Meghasandesham .
He is survived by two sons and three daughters, one of whom is actor Akkineni Nagarjuna.
His body will be kept at Hyderabad’s Annapurna Studios at Banjara Hills from 9:30 a.m for the public to pay their last respects.
