The Andhra Pradesh government is sending 123 farmers from the Amaravati (capital) region to Singapore to learn best practices in business and entrepreneurship, according to a press release.
Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday released the funds for the purpose.
He said on the occasion that farmers in the Amaravati region in Guntur district had sacrificed their lands for the sake of the new capital and they should now seek alternative means of livelihood with the compensation provided by the government. Singapore, in his view, was the best place for the purpose.
The Chief Minister also approved the housing project for government staff, IAS officers and legislators in the capital region. The revised cost for the project is ₹2,652 crore.
Three companies — NCC, L&T and Shapoorji Pallonji — will be involved in the project, scheduled to be completed in six months.
Separate towers would be constructed for different categories of employees, officials and legislators in the new capital.
