The West Bengal State Consumer Affairs department is looking to bring to book e-commerce platforms that fail to deliver goods as promised on their sites.

According to Sadhan Pande, State Consumer Affairs Minister, there has been a rise in the number of complaints received from consumers regarding sales on online platform.

“E-commerce platforms have to be careful about the delivery of goods, as promised on their sites,” he said at an interactive session organised by the Merchants’ Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Pande, however, did not mention what measures specific to e-commerce sites would be taken.

The State government is planning to enter into partnership with companies such as Raymond Ltd and Berger Paints for skill development among unemployed youth.

The government has shortlisted 70 candidates to undergo tailoring course to be imparted by Raymond.

The government is also in talks with modern retail chains such as Spencer’s to market products manufactured by self-help groups.
