The Centre has expressed interest in set up a fertiliser plant, pharma park and a research centre of the Central Institute of Plastics Engineering and Technology’s (CIPET) in Karnataka.

“Union Minister Ananth Kumar has urged me to find 500 acres for the fertiliser plant,” State Industries Minister RV Deshpande told Business Line .

The announcement is expected to be made at the global investor meet ‘Invest Karnataka, 2016’ next month.

“The Union Minister has also sought 100 acres for a pharma park and around 10 acres to set up the CIPET’s research centre. Once the State gets the details, we will finalise the land and location,” he added.

The State government is yet to shortlist a suitable location for fertiliser plant but is keen to locate the pharma park at Hassan, Mangaluru or Yadgir.

CIPET has a small campus in Mysuru and land for its research centre is expected to be finalised shortly.

Ease of doing business Gaurav Gupta, Karnataka Commissioner for Department of Commerce and Industries, addressing BCIC members said the State is keeping pace with the nation by pushing for more transparency and bringing large-scale reforms in our Industries sector.

“From providing deemed approval for land to industries and for obtaining the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) nod, all these certifications can now be secured online,” he said.

Most of the services have also been brought under the Sakala Act to provide guarantee of services in the State for delivery of services within stipulated time limit.

“The government and its various departments are working dynamically towards meeting industry expectations by providing simplified procedures. The state government supports investments and addresses the issues of investors to do their business easily,” Gupta said.

Focus on smaller cities Deshpande said the Department of Industries through the district administrations of Belagavi, Haveri, Uttara Kannada and Mysuru has seen investment commitment to the tune of around ₹10,000 crore.

Belagavi recived 120 proposals worth ₹2,443 crore, while Uttara Kannada received proposals worth ₹728 crore.

“Belagavi district saw as many as 93 industrial establishments and entrepreneurs submitted 400 proposals totalling ₹2,443 crore, of which 120 proposals were cleared on the spot,” said a senior officer of Industries department.
