The Infosys board is meeting on Saturday to consider a buyback proposal. Under the proposal, the company could return as much as Rs 13,000 crore to its shareholders. The board of the embattled company — which saw its CEO Vishal Sikka step down on Friday amid founders alleging corporate governance lapses — has reiterated that there is no going back on the steps initiated by Sikka. The share buyback — which will be the first in the company’s 36-year history — has been a long-standing demand by some of the founders and high-profile former executives, who have been pushing Infosys to return surplus capital to its shareholders.

The GST tax portal is likely to offer from Saturday forms to claim credit on sales made before the rollout of the GST which the taxpayers have to file by August 28. As GST return forms did not have a column for claiming transitional input credit, the government on Thursday gave some breather to such taxpayers by giving them an extra week till August 28 to file returns.

The Indian football team will clash with Mauritius in the Hero Tri-nation Series at the Mumbai Football Arena. In their second match of the tournament, India will play against St. Kitts & Nevis on August 24. The Tri-nation Football series is part of the national team's preparatory process for the AFC Asian Cup Qualifying away match against Macau, which is scheduled for September 5.

Army Chief Gen Bipin Rawat will pay a three-day visit to Ladakh beginning Sunday during which he will take stock of the security preparedness along the border with China besides discussing key operational matters with top commanders. The Army Chief’s visit to Ladakh comes days after Indian border guards foiled an attempt by Chinese soldiers to enter Indian territory along the banks of Pangong lake in Ladakh. The President Ram Nath Kovind is also expected to visit Ladakh for two days from Sunday.

Chinese smartphone maker Coolpad is set to launch its latest device CoolPlay 6 in the country. Coolpad India is targeting the sale of five million phones in the financial year 2017-18. The firm, which sold three million phones in the current financial year, is planning to expand off-line sales by hiring distributors in about 10 states.
