GST Council meet

GST Council will meet in the Capital to discuss early implementation of e-way bill. The council will deliberate on plugging the gaps in the system as well as curbing evasion. There has been a Rs 12,000-crore revenue decline in the Goods and Services Tax in October over September. Invoice matching too is expected to come up for discussion.

Koda sentencing

Special Judge Bharat Parashar will pronounce his order on Saturday on the quantum of punishment for former Jharkhand chief minister Madhu Koda, ex-coal secretary HC Gupta and others who have been convicted in a coal scam case. The CBI has sought from the maximum seven-year jail term for Koda and others, terming them as “criminals holding office“.

NEEPCO power project

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Tuirial Hydro Electric Project of NEEPCO in Aizawl on Saturday. The power project is the biggest in Mizoram and will feed the entire energy to be generated to the home State. The State's current demand of electricity is 87 MW. Now, this is being met by the mini power projects and from central sector projects.

Farewell to Romania’s last king

Romania's King Michael I will be given a state funeral on Saturday attended by members of other European royal families. Michael, who ruled Romania twice and was forced to abdicate by the communists in 1947, died December 5 in Switzerland at age 96. Thousands of mourners paid their respects to the king whose coffin stood on a rostrum in a grand room, not far from where he ordered the arrest of pro-Nazi leader Marshal Ion Antonescu on August 23, 1944, which took Romania into the war on the side of the Allies.

India vs Sri Lanka final ODI

India and Sri Lanka will face off in the third and final one day international to be played in Visakhapatnam ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium at Pothinamallayyapalem. Sunday's match will decide the fate of the ODI series. In the first ODI, Sri Lanka defeated India by seven wickets. In the second, India crushed Sri Lanka by 141 runs to level the three-match series.
