Nooruddin Khan of the University of Hyderabad has bagged two ICMR Awards — Shakuntala Amir Chand Prize and Chaturvedi Kalawati Jagmohan Das Memorial for his contributions in biomedical research.
An Assistant Professor in the Department of Biotechnology and Bioinformatics, School of Life Sciences, UoH, Nooruddin received the awards at the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) Annual Day function in New Delhi recently.
The Shakuntala Amir Chand Prize (for young scientists in the field of biomedical sciences) recognises Khan’s work on the molecular mechanisms of vaccine induced protective immunity, which has a potential bearing for the design and development of a novel vaccine formulation against emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases.
Khan bagged the Chaturvedi Kalawati Jagmohan Das award for his work in the field of Immunology. His work revolves around understanding the regulatory mechanisms through which immune cells sense and respond to the conditions of nutrient restriction, according to a press release from the University .
He is among the few to win two prizes of the ICMR, which has a string of over 30 Institutes across the country. The award carries cash prize, gold medal, citation and certificates.
