In a major boost for the power supply in Telangana, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will dedicate the 1200 mw the state-owned mining company, Singareni Thermal Power Project located in Adilabad district to the nation on Sunday in presence of State Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao.

Built with an investment of Rs 8,250 crore, the plant has been allotted 3 TMC water from river Godavari and Pranahitha and 60 lakh tonnes of Coal from the Singareni mines. BHEL, McNelly Bharath are among key contractors for the project. The SCCL has entered the purchase agreement with TSDiscom on January 18.

It is also in the process of taking up expansion of the project by setting up another 800 mw coal fired plant at the same site.

The construction of two 600 mw each plants had commenced in 2011 and had achieved only 20 per cent work till 2015. After the formation of Telangana state, the Chief Minister provided special thrust to fast track project works. N. Sridhar, CMD of SCCL, who took charge in January 2015, personally supervised the completion of the remaining 80 per cent work within 18 months.

The project was commissioned in June 2016 to meet the demand-supply gap in the State.

Sridhar said SCCL is the among coal mining company in India to enter into the power generation by establishing a power project on its own.
