Electricity consumers in Telangana across all segments — domestic, commercial and industrial — face no tariff hike for the financial year 2017-18.

Telangana’s power distribution companies, in their submission on tariff proposals for the year 2017-18, have suggested that the tariffs according to the order for 2016-17 be retained for this fiscal.

In their submissions to the Telangana State Regulatory Commission, the Discoms suggested that the tariffs of the last fiscal be continued with effect from April 1.

The Discoms have also proposed for removal of restrictions on the number of connections and acreage for dryland and wetland farmers, excluding corporate farmers, for free power supply.

The tariff order submitted to K Srinivas Reddy, Secretary, Telangana Electricity Regulatory Commission, by G Raghuma Reddy, Chairman and MD, TSSPDCL, proposed nil hike in tariffs and extension of free supply of power to cultivation in polyhouse/green-houses.

Contrary to general perception that there could be a tariff hike, the decision of the Discoms not to seek tariff hike comes in as a pleasant surprise to consumers.
