The Centre on Thursday approved construction of a total of 1,27,674 houses for urban poor in Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka and Andaman & Nicobar Islands, under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban). These projects costing ₹6,532 crore would receive a central assistance of ₹1,915 crore, a release from the Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation said. 70,784 houses will be constructed in UP, 56,281 and 609 houses will be in Karnataka and A&N Islands respectively.
