STC Technologies plans to train over one lakh unemployed youth in the next three years.
Saran Vel, founder and Chief Operating Officer, STC Skills, said the company planned to set up 20 multi-skill development training centres in Tamil Nadu and other parts of the country by March, 2018.
The company has initiated the process by setting up model skill development training centres under Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Kendra (PMKK) at Oscar Institute of Hotel Management at Thoothukkudi, Mary Matha College of Arts and Science in Theni and Sarah Tucker College in Tirunelveli.
The skill development centre at Oscar Institute and Mary Matha College in Theni is spread over 8,000 sq ft (each), while the centre at Sarah Tucker in Tirunelveli is slightly larger at 8,500 sq ft.
Around 6,000 candidates are expected to be trained at each of these centres over a three-year period in five job roles in sectors including beauty and wellness, tourism and hospitality, electronics and hardware, telecom and retail.
The training, according to STC Skills, will be for a period of 10 to 12 weeks. It will be fully sponsored and subsidised by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship.
