The Telangana government has pegged the size of the Budget in 2019-20 at ₹2 lakh crore. “The size of the Budgets generally double every five years. But, we expect still faster growth and expect this to grow to ₹5 lakh crore in 2024,” Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhara Rao, has said.

Addressing a gathering at the Hyderabad International Convention Centre (HICC) here on Thursday to mark the State’s Formation Day, he said the State could find its feet well after initial confusion of about six months after it came into existence on June 2, 2014. The size of the Budget for 2015-16 was ₹1.30 lakh crore.

Growth rate “After the initial problems, we are able to manage the finances well. The growth rate of the State is above the national average,” he said.

Earlier, addressing a gathering at the Parade Grounds at Secunderabad, he promised to provide nine hours of power supply to the agriculture sector in the day time. He said that the government would carve out 14-15 new districts, creating new revenue divisions and mandals to improve efficiency of administration. “We will have those new districts by Dasara,” he said.

Peaceful movement Relating the ‘exploitation’ natural and human resources in over five decades of combined State, he said the State had suffered enormously.

“We have led a peaceful movement to wrest the State. We are in the process of rebuilding the State by utilising the financial, water and human resources,” he said.

He highlighted the government’s flagship programmes of Mission Kakatiya (tank renovation) and Mission Bhageeratha (drinking water), explaining how they were going to solve the drinking and irrigation water problems.
