The Neyveli Lignite Corporation has agreed to compensate the family of the contract worker shot dead by a Central Industrial Security Force guard.
According to representatives of the Joint Action Council of trade unions, the NLC management has agreed to provide ₹5 lakh compensation to the family of the contract worker shot dead by a CISF guard yesterday following an altercation.
The management has also agreed to provide permanent employment to the widow of the victim.
According to the union representatives, senior officials of the CISF agreed to bring in changes in systems to ensure smooth relations between workers and the security force. The police have filed a murder case against the guard involved in the shooting, a union representative said. The Council consisting of over a dozen unions representing about 25,000 workers at NLC decided to call off the strike.
