Over 200 films from 75 countries will be screened at the 13th Pune International Film Festival (PIFF) that will be held in the city from January 8-15, 2015.
Scheduled to kick off on January 8 with Timbuktu directed by Abderrahmane Sissako, the theme for this edition of the PIFF is 'War against war'. To mark the 100th anniversary of World War I and 25 years of the fall of the Berlin wall, four films on WW I and three films based on the latter incident will be screened during the festival.
The various sections include one dedicated to Marathi cinema today, a country focus of 20 films from Algeria (7), Egypt (7) and Brazil (6), Indian cinema (10 regional films) and seven documentary films in the 'Legends we Remember’ segment courtesy the Films Division.
In the retrospective category, six films of renowned Indian actor Soumitra Chatterjee, seven films of well-known Polish director Krzysztof Zanussi and four of Peruvian film director Francisco Jose Lombardi will be screened. With help from the French Embassy, 11 films curated by French director Bertrand Tavernier will be screened under the French Grand Classic section.
Members of the jury for the PIFF include Krzysztof Zanussi (Poland), Kiran Nagarkar (India), Fernando Colombo (Spain), Helmut Groschup (Austria), Marcel Gisler (Switzerland), Marco Simon Puccioni (Italy), Peter Tweihuas (Germany) and Nandana Sen (USA).
Organised jointly by Pune Film Foundation and the Government of Maharashtra, the film festival will have 350 shows at 14 screens in eight locations in Pune and neighbouring Pimpri Chinchwad.
The screenings will be held at City Pride multiplexes in Kothrud, Satara Road and Deccan, Mangala Multiplex, Inox (Camp), Big Cinema in Pimpri Chinchwad and NFAI auditorium on Law College Road.
