The Kisan Channel, which is targeted at the farming community in the country, is set to be launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday. It will be compulsory for all the cable and DTH networks to carry it.
Arun Jaitley, Minister of Finance, Corporate Affairs and Information & Broadcasting, said this will be a 24X7 channel.
“Through this channel, programmes for the rural and farmer community will be telecast which will give them real time information on new techniques in the agriculture sector, like farming and irrigation, beside weather forecasts and other related issues. Since, there are farmers in all states, Kisan Channel has been made ‘a must carry’ channel, under the Cable Act. It will be compulsory for all the cable and DTH networks to carry it,” he added.
Even the entertainment programmes to be telecast on this channel will be made keeping in mind the interests of the rural audience. In addition, efforts will be made to dub some of the programmes in regional languages. Jaitley said similar exhibitions would be held across all the State capitals and will run for a month.
