RBI governor Raghuram Rajan is the latest high profile person to publicly support Prime Minister Modi’s Swach Bharat campaign, citing taking up the broom was one way of making India a better place.

Addressing students during the annual convocation of the National Institute of Bank Management, Rajan urged them to give back to society, and said doing a good job for the country or community would help the world.

“There are so many opportunities in this country to give back. People from around the world come looking for meaning in their life because they want to do something useful that is not available in their countries,” Rajan said, adding, “Our PM has suggested one means which will certainly make India a better place if we all contribute, and that’s Swachh Bharat.”

“If we look outside and see a field full of rubbish, just get some friends together to work one Saturday to clean it up. Yes, it is true it will get dirty again the next day, but do it five Saturdays in a row and eventually the message will get across,” was Rajan’s suggestion to the students.
