Ministry of Science and Technology would conduct an International Science Festival here that would bring in several scientists from various parts of the country, Union Minister Harsha Vardhan said today.

The Ministry would soon come out with a detailed programme about the event to be hosted later this year, the Union Minister for Science and Technology and Earth sciences, said.

“I would also like to use this occasion to announce that this year the Science and Technology Ministry is organising the India International Science Festival in Chennai (scheduled to be held) from October 13 to 16”, he said.

The Minister was talking to reporters after unveiling a new building for the National Centre for Sustainable Coastal Management here at Anna University.

“Very soon, we will come out with a detailed programme (about the event). Already, the preparations have started. The Science Festival will see the participation of over 10,000 scientists from all parts of the country and from other countries”, he said.

Earlier talking about the Centre’s support to the issues raised by Tamil Nadu, he said Prime Minister Narendra Modi is concerned about the problems faced by people of Tamil Nadu.

“I can say that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is committed to the welfare of the whole country and also Tamil Nadu in particular”, he said.

The Minister who also holds the Environment Ministry portfolio sought people to take up “one environment friendly initiative every day” in the State.

“We seek your (media) support in motivating the Tamil Nadu people for doing at least one environment friendly positive act every day so that we are able to have a huge positive national movement in the country”, he said.
