GDP growth data

India will release its GDP growth data for the March quarter and 2014-15 today. A Moody's report said that data will likely show that growth may have slowed to 7.2% from 7.5% in the December quarater. The numbers for core sector growth for April are also due to be released.

The US is also slated to announce its GDP figures for the first quarter. The US economy probably shrank in the first quarter, the weakest performance in a year.

FIFA presidential election

FIFA has said its annual congress and leadership vote would go ahead as planned this week despite the calls for the elections to be postponed. Sepp Blatter, president of soccer’s FIFA global governing body, faces Jordan’s Prince Ali bin al Hussein as he seeks a fifth term in the job. Blatter has been FIFA's president since 1998. FIFA's 209 member associations each hold one vote, meaning that tiny American Samoa holds the same voting rights as soccer powers like Brazil or Germany.

Push for broadband project

Telecom Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad has called a meeting of IT ministers and secretaries of all the states on May 29 to discuss the national optical fibre network project. The government expects more participation from the States as the project is important to the success of Digital India initiative.

BMW 6 Series launch

BMW will launch the 2015 BMW 6 Series facelift in India on May 29.

England vs NZ Test

England and New Zealand will meet for the the second and final match of their two-Test series, starting Friday in Leeds.
