Two Central Public Works Department (CPWD) officials have been sacked on corruption charges, a statement from the Ministry of Urban Development said on Tuesday.
M. Venkaiah Naidu, Minister of Urban Development, ordered the dismissal from service of R. Kennadi, Executive Engineer (Civil) on March 2, 2015, while R.V. Suresh Kumar, Assistant Engineer (Civil), was earlier dismissed by the Director-General of CPWD following their conviction under the Prevention of Corruption Act,1988.
The two were convicted of criminal misconduct of demanding and obtaining bribe by the CBI Special Court, Thiruvananthapuram, the statement added.
The two were sentenced to three years imprisonment and a fine of ₹50,000 each on three counts.
This is not the first such dismissal of a CPWD official in recent times. On January 8, AK Verma, a senior Central Public Works Department (CPWD) official, was dismissed from service by Naidu for being absent from duty for over 24 years.
