The British Council is offering a free massive open online course - Exploring English: Language and Culture on an online learning platform - futurelearn.com.
The six-week course is based on British Council’s language learning content and will begin on February 2. The course will give learners a chance to engage with people all over the world, and develop an understanding of British culture.
"This course is for those keen to improve their English for work, travel or study," said Chris Brandwood, Regional Business Development Manager, English, British Council South Asia in a press statement. "Large numbers of people from across the world signed up for the first edition of the course and we look forward to large numbers this time too."
The course uses short videos to present a different topic each week and centres on social interaction, where people engage in debates and participate in online quizzes.
The British Council has collaborated with FutureLearn and its university partners to facilitate students’ access to British Council English language content and assessment. One must be at least 13 years old to create a profile on FutureLearn. Parents can register using their own name and then supervise a child throughout the course.
The first edition of Exploring English Language and Culture was launched in September 2014. Over 1.22 lakh learners registered and participation levels were the highest that FutureLearn has seen since their launch in December 2012.
