Apollo Hospitals group is likely to take a call on the airport hospital project early next year.

The first one would come up in Hyderabad, followed by projects at other airports in the country. “Traffic and development of townships around the airport would hold the key,” Ms Preetha Reddy, Managing Director of Apollo Hospitals group, said.

Addressing reporters on the sidelines of the two-day Patient Safety and Healthcare IT, she said the company would spend Rs 1,800 crore on developing 10 new hospitals, including in Navi Mumbai and Nagpur, in the next two years.

The new projects would add 2,000 beds, taking the total to 10,000 by the end of 2013, in a span of 24 months.

The group would initially spend Rs 800 crore from internal accruals on these new projects.

It might also look at managing or leasing two-three hospitals, she said.

While stating that the company had not yet taken a decision on hiving off the pharma store business, she said the chain would have 500-600 stores this year. At present, it has 1,200 stores across the country.

With regard to Apollo Reach Hospitals, she said the company would have five more hospitals in this segment, with 500 beds, to take the total to 10.

It also would add five more nursing schools that would take the number to 15.
