EasyWind GmbH, a small wind turbine manufacturer based in Germany, is looking for an Indian partner to set up manufacturing base here, according to the company's Chief Executive Officer, Mr Volker Wiethuchter.

EasyWind, which makes 6 kW wind turbines suitable for grid-connected and off-grid applications, is looking at the emerging markets which are the growth areas. It recently set up a production facility in China, and is keen on setting up a unit here, he said.

Mr Wiethuchter was in Chennai to address the conference on ‘Small Wind and Hybrid Systems' on Friday, organised along with the Wind Power India 2011 — an international conference on wind power.

EasyWind's units are of proven rating capable of working under wide wind conditions whether mildly windy or gale force. At 5 metres a second wind speed, the unit generates about 11,000 kWh a year, 7 metre a second about 20,000 kWh.

Mr Carsten Corino, CEO, Corino Energy, says small wind turbines offer decentralised power generation and offer the flexibility of use — either as isolated units or a cluster to set up wind farms. Over a 1,000 such wind turbines can be set up in a square kilometre area to provide 6 MW capacity.

‘Intercropping' is also possible by setting up the small units in between the conventional large wind energy generators. Europe offers attractive feed in tariffs for wind power. It ranges from about the equivalent of Rs 9.50 a unit in Switzerland to Rs 18.90 in Italy and UK.
