ITT Corporation, a world leader in water treatment, has received its first major order in India. It will supply Flygt circulating water pumps to Coastal Energen Pvt Ltd, an Indian energy company, for a thermal power project in Tamil Nadu. The $11.65-million (Rs 52.48 crore) order involves complete electrical and mechanical works for the circulating water and seawater intake systems at Coastal Energen's thermal power plant near Tuticorin, Tamil Nadu.

Once installed, the Flygt large circulating water pumps will be among the largest seawater handling vertical column discharge pumps in India. Each of the six pumps, expected to be commissioned by June 2012, will pump 29,400 cubic meters of water per hour, Mr Madhusudan Thumala, General Manager, told Business Line . “The order is among the largest single orders to date in India in this segment”, said Mr Sam Yamdagni, President, ITT Corporation India Pvt Ltd. Earlier, ITT India completed a $23-million (Rs 107 crore) order for lift irrigation in Andhra Pradesh and another of $74 million, as part of a consortium, at the Sardar Sarovar Project on the Narmada river in Gujarat.
