Italian heating and air-conditioning products company Ferroli has entered the Indian market with electric water heaters, and will launch gas and solar power-backed products next year.

“We are now rolling out a wide range of electric water heaters, starting from one-litre products and going up to 500-litre ones for bungalows and small commercial establishments such as hotels.

These are currently being sourced from the new assembly line set up at a manufacturing unit in China to meet Indian market requirements,” said AK Rathi, Managing Director of Ferroli India.

Speaking to BusinessLine last week before launching their products in India, Rathi said: “We have designed these heaters specifically to suit Indian conditions. Within two years, we are likely to finalise plans for a manufacturing unit in India.”

He said the products are “competitively” priced, though “the excise duty and other imposts will add to the cost”. The company has launched the water heaters in South India now, and will go to the other parts of the country in a phased manner. All the heating systems are five-star rated as per the Bureau of Energy Efficiency norms.

Of the country’s water heating market estimated to be at ₹1,200-1,300 crore, electricity-based products account for about ₹900 crore, gas about ₹100 crore and the rest is from solar water heaters.

Some of the water heating systems are Wi-Fi enabled and they can be controlled by mobile phones by downloading an application.

With this, the operation of these heaters becomes much more convenient, Rathi added.
