Mr P. P. Upadhya, Director (Technical) of MRPL, assumed charge as Managing Director of the company on July 1.
An MRPL (Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd) statement said here on Sunday that Mr Upadhya took charge from Mr U.K . Basu, who superannuated on June 30.
Speaking to Business Line here, he said that finding alternative sources of crude oil is on his priority list. This is in the wake of sanctions on Iran by the US.
He said the company will procure from other suppliers such as Saudi, Kuwait and ADNOC (Abu Dhabi National Oil Company) among others.
Other priorities include the completion of phase-III facilities, such as the SPM (single point mooring) facility at New Mangalore Port and the polypropylene manufacturing unit.
The release said that Mr Upadhya is a chemical engineer from the National Institute of Technology – Karnataka, Surathkal, near Mangalore. He holds a Masters in Engineering in Chemical Plant Design from the same institute.
Mr Upadhya started his career in Indian Oil Corporation Ltd in 1978. He served there till he joined MRPL in 1993.
