A vaccine to protect livestock — Raksha Ovac — made by Indian Immunologicals Ltd (IIL), has grossed sales of over Rs 100 crore.
It is the first animal health brand from India to achieve this milestone.
In the bargain, Raksha Ovac has emerged the largest brand in the animal health sector, the Hyderabad-based company claimed in a press release here today.
The vaccine, a flagship brand of the company offers protection to cattle, buffaloes, sheep and goats against Foot & Mouth disease (FMD), a debilitating and economically important disease in India. Vaccination is the only means to control it at present.
According to estimates, the loss in milk production and draught power is about Rs 3,000 crore a year. Further, most of the developed countries do not allow imports of any livestock products from FMD endemic countries, affecting the exports of the livestock sector, said Mr K.V. Balasubramaniam, Managing Director, IIL.
