Suguna Pumps and Motors has launched two more submersible pumps and open well pumps on Thursday.

The launch has been timed to coincide with the World Water Day, said the Chairman of Suguna Group of Industries, Mr V. Lakshminarayanaswamy.

The company makes 30 types of pumps including the two new variants – a submersible pump and an open well pump.

The company proposes to focus on the genset market more aggressively. “We have until now concentrated only on smaller range (up to 7.5 kW). We will look at a wider range (up to 62.5 kW) and with greater focus,” he added.

The company is in the process of appointing more dealers across the country.

It has around 500 dealers and 12 branches across the country. “We are planning to have more channel partners and focus on the north eastern market,” Mr Lakshminarayanaswamy said.

On performance, he said, “Our target is to double our sales volume in the next 3 years.” The company sells 35,000-40,000 submersible pumps a year at present. Exports to the US, Italy and some parts of Africa account for 10-15 per cent of the turnover.

Asked if he was looking at newer geographies, he said, “The domestic market is still untapped, huge.”

On manpower, he said, “there is a huge constraint in getting skilled manpower. We have established our own industrial training institute to source our requirement. We will be adding another 150 to our existing team size of 700 this year,” he said, referring to the factory workers.

The company has introduced two bots to take care of its winding, assembly and machining process. Without divulging too many details, the Group Chairman said, “We intend to add another 15 robots after field testing the ones that we have introduced in the pilot phase. People are being trained to use robots. It helps enhance productivity as also tide over manpower shortage that most manufacturing units face at present.”
