Male consumers have started spending 40-50 per cent more on grooming products, says an Assocham survey for 2000-2011.
Teenagers' overall spending on cosmetics also grew to Rs 3,000-4,000 a month against less than Rs 1,000 in 2000, said the country-wide survey which sought the views of over 6,000 teenagers.
Almost all consumer segments opted for branded products in cosmetics, said the survey.
Over 65 per cent of the respondents said their branded cosmetic consumption had gone up by about 45 per cent in the past 10 years.
On buying decisions, the survey found that 72 per cent females said they preferred to select the brands themselves compared with 64 per cent males.
A quarter of housewives and executives said they spend over Rs 2,500-3,500 a month on cosmetics and apparels.
