Most car and two-wheeler dealerships wore a deserted look on Saturday as sellers awaited details of price revisions.
While some car dealerships had given unofficial holidays to sales staff, others were busy checking the inventory and preparing for the new tax system.
“There is no work for us today as we are waiting for the revised price list from the manufacturer. Sales team will be back in full swing only from Monday,” said a senior sales staff at a Maruti dealership.
Maruti Suzuki India Ltd has announced a price cut of three per cent on ex-showroom prices of its models due to lower GST rates. Barring smart hybrid Ciaz diesel and smart hybrid Ertiga diesel, all other models of Maruti will see a price reduction.
All its dealerships are expected to get their revised price list on Monday. Dealers of Hyundai, Honda and Nissan also confirmed that they will swing into action from Monday.
However, two-wheeler dealers were ready to accept bookings on Saturday, but footfalls were very poor.
“We are ready to take bookings. We have no idea about price revisions, we hope to get the list on Monday,” said a sales staff at a TVS Motor dealership.
It was the same story at Bajaj and Honda two-wheeler showrooms where there was hardly any transaction, but things should be back to normal from Monday, they said.
Meanwhile, Hero and Yamaha have announced revision of prices for their vehicles in order to pass on the lower GST rate benefits to buyers.
The quantum of reduction will range from ₹400 to ₹1,800 on mass volume Hero models. However, the actual benefit varies from State to State, depending on the pre and post-GST rates.
Some of the premium segment models will see a reduction of up to ₹4,000 in certain markets. In one or two States, such as Haryana, where the pre-GST rates were lower than the post-GST rate, the prices of a few models may go up marginally, Hero MotoCorp said.
Roland Folger, Managing Director & CEO, Mercedes-Benz India, which started selling its luxury cars at reduced price levels from May 26 due to GST, said the company was encouraged with the rising enquiries and increased footfall at its dealerships.
