Disney India is getting ready to scorch the Indian stage with its second locally-created Broadway musical, Aladdin .

The Indian arm of the global entertainment giant has roped in BookMyshow as the producer and licensee of the show, which is being produced with local talent. Disney had made its debut on the Indian stage with first-ever Broadway-style musical show Beauty and the Beast in 2015.

Aladdin , the classic fantasy production, has already enchanted audiences in the US, UK, Australia and Japan.

“We have taken the licensee model to replicate a global show and achieve scale. We believe this is an economically viable model. The incredible spectacle will be reimagined and developed by the best of Indian talent to make it locally relevant, without losing the original essence of the Broadway show,” Abhishek Maheshwari, Country Head, Disney India, told BusinessLine on the sidelines of the launch.

Maheshwari said show will be staged in three cities — Delhi, Mumbai and Hyderabad — beginning April, and the tickets will be priced at ₹750. PayPal will be the preferred payments partner.

Vikrant Pawar, Head, Live Entertainment & Local Content Studio, Disney India, said: “Live events are growing in India and the demand is high for high quality shows. A lot of effort of goes into creating the backend and we train talent for six to eight months”.

In 2015, Disney India’s locally produced Beauty and the Beast was the the first ever Broadway-style musical.

Events market

According to an Event and Entertainment Management Association) report, the events and activations industry in India is expected to cross the ₹10,000-crore mark by 2020-21.

The industry, which was estimated at ₹5,631 crore in 2016-17 overall, has been growing at a 16 per cent CAGR.
