Celkon Impex Limited, a Hyderabad-based mobile phone manufacturing company, will set up GPON (Gigabit Passive Optical Networks) manufacturing facility in the city for the South Korean firm DASAN Network Solutions.
GPON technology plays a key role in the dissemination of signals via optic fibre cables. The Telangana Government, which is working on a project to provide optic fibre connectivity to all the households in the State, has signed a tri-partite agreement with Celkon and the Korean companies to establish the facility.
“We will manufacture GPON boxes for the Korean firm at the Fab City near Hyderabad,” Y Guru, Chairman and Managing Director of Celkon told Business Line after signing the agreement. “The partnership is expected to generate over 2,000 new jobs,” a state government official said.
Yung Kim, Global Chief Executive Officer of DASAN Network Solutions, Jayesh Ranjan, Principal Secretary (IT and Industries Department, Govt of Telangana), and Y Guru signed the agreement.
Celkon and DASAN Networks have a similar agreement for the GPON technology in Andhra Pradesh.
With optic fibre connectivity is being rolled out across thee country, Celkon sees a good opportunity in manufacturing of GPON equipment.
