The Hindusthan Shipyard Ltd (HSL) , the BHEL and Midhani have signed a memorandum of understanding to form a consortium and make a bid for the contract to construct six submarines for the Indian Navy indigenously, according to a BHEL press release.
The MoU was signed in New Delhi between the three organisations. BHEL has a unit (formerly BHPV) here. It would be a great help to both the HSL and the BHEL unit here if the consortium manages to bag the contract. "There is a great synergy between the three PSUs and they will be able to construct the submarines to suit the needs of the Navy," according to sources in the HSL.
The HSL is now functioning under the Union Ministry of Defence.
