Rajkot-based software company Learning Delightcreates learning tools and converts curriculum-based textbooks into animated and digitised content that can be imparted to children using LED screen installations in classrooms — making the teaching and learning experience interactive and fun.

It provides an interface between not only teachers and students, but also corporates’ CSR activities and Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA), by providing content in local languages. Now, it is targeting to expand its reach from 6,600 government schools across 12 districts in Gujarat to 25,000 schools by March 2017 — and further to Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh next year.

“Our aim is not to replace teachers with technology, but to aid their work with the latest teaching tools. Even in their absence, students will not suffer; most students are now tech-savvy and can self-learn from the tools we provide them in the form of videos and content approved by Gujarat Council of Educational Research and Training ,” Parinita Gohil, Vice-President - Marketing, Learning Delight, told BusinessLine . Her husband Harshal Gohil and Vandan Kamdar co-founded the firm Delight in 2010 with only five schools in the kitty.

“Under SSA, nearly 25,000 government-run schools in the State, out of 35,000, have been provided infrastructure such as TV sets and computer laboratories over the last decade to improve teaching using videos and computer-aided learning programmes (CALPs). The teachers can also learn these teaching tools in under 30 minutes. We have a support service provider for each set of 30 schools. We train the teachers at their schools.”

For revenues, Learning Delight is tapping into the CSR funds of major business groups such as Adani Foundation, Tata Power and Rotary International. “With corporates earmarking 2 per cent of their net profit for socially responsible projects under the CSR rule, we approach them for support as their implementation partners.”

Learning Delight starts at the bottom of the social pyramid, targeting rural and semi-urban areas. It incorporates animation, riddles, puzzles and stories, aligned to support teacher and class interaction.
