I-Can Nano Paints, the environment-friendly next-generation nanotechnology-based paints, is targeting revenues of Rs 400 crore by 2012.

Dr Arup Chatterjee, chief executive of the company said the manufacturing facility at Kolkata has a production capacity to manufacture 600 tonnes a month, which will be enhanced to 900 tonnes shortly. Mr Chatterjee, who was here to launch the company's products in Kerala, said the range comprises products for both exterior and interior decoration, and are competitively priced.

The products are the result of an indigenous technology developed at Innovation Centre for Applied Nanotechnology (I-Can Nano). The company has tied up with Tata, Mahindra & Mahindra, Godrej, Boyce, etc. for manufacturing nanotech paints and composites. The product is 99.99 per cent bacteria-free and is a green paint, certified by Paint Research association, he said.

He pointed out that conventional paints and coatings are made up of large molecules where water, dirt and other particles can leach into the gaps and erode the surface. Nano paints are densely packed with robust molecules that act as a barrier. Mr Prathish Menon, chief executive of Octa Green Nano, which markets the paints in Kerala, said they expect the market for environment-friendly paints in the State to grow. The company is targeting sales of Rs 20 crore from the State in the next fiscal.
