Public sector power producer NTPC Ltd has reported a three per cent drop in net profit in the first quarter for fiscal 2015-16 to ₹ 2,135.35 crore. In the same quarter last year, the company’s net profit was ₹ 2,201.20 crore.
The company’s revenues during the quarter also went down almost 7 per cent to ₹ 17,084.58 crore against ₹ 18,336.75 crore in the same quarter last year.
During the quarter, NTPC’s coal-based stations achieved a plant load factor of 77.58 per cent against a national plant load factor of 61.80 per cent.
The company’s gross generation during the quarter was lower by 7 per cent at 58.696 billion units against 63.157 billion units in the same quarter last year. NTPC said it had a received an average tariff of ₹ 3.26 a unit during the quarter.
In terms of coal availability, the company used 6.14 per cent more domestic coal at 38.39 million tonnes during the quarter. Imports also rose marginally by 5.18 per cent at 3.86 million tonnes.
NTPC’s gas-based power plants operated at 28.47 per cent plant load factor which was lower than 39.82 per cent achieved in the same quarter last year.
On Thursday, the company’s shares closed 0.60 per cent higher at ₹ 135.85.
