Given the growth rate in the spring mattress category, the Coimbatore-based Repose Mattress Pvt Ltd has chalked out plans to expand the market through innovative products this year.

The size of the spring mattress category in the organised segment is estimated at ₹1,800 crore and is growing at 30 per cent per annum. Ramanath Bhat, COO, Repose Mattress, attributes the growth to increased income levels, rise in residential units and inflating number of hotels.

Bhat, who was in Kochi for a dealer meet, said the focus would now be on selling health and luxury segment products, as the increasing demand for good quality mattresses and rising health consciousness had led to many innovations in the industry.

Plans are afoot to introduce eco-friendly mattresses comprising of bamboo pulp fibre, organic bio-cotton fabric and aloe vera treated fabric. Bamboo pulp fibre has anti-bacterial properties and aloe vera treated fabric is soft and cool, ensuring comfort in all seasons, he said.

Talks are on with leading jewellers and textile showrooms in Kerala to display mattresses in their outlets beginning in the Onam festival season, besides targeting the wedding crowd. The company has also rolled out a new product called Romanto for newly-weds and a 100 per cent latex mattress, V. Balaji, Chief Marketing Officer said.

As part of its market expansion plans, Repose will be adding 42 exclusive showrooms called Sleep Stations, taking the total to 80 across the five southern states.

The dealer network would be increased to 1,350 from the existing 880. The company is targeting a turnover of ₹85 crore in FY17 against the last fiscal’s ₹52 crore.

The production facility in Arasur in Coimbatore has been expanded at an investment of ₹7.5 crore by adding another 60,000 sq ft to produce 10,000 mattresses each month. The current capacity is 90,000 mattresses per annum.
