The Rourkela Steel Plant continues to operate its major production facilities well over their rated capacity, achieving its best-ever production figures since inception during the first four months of the 2011-12 financial year.
According to officials, the plant produced 0.747 million tonnes of hot metal, 0.709 mt crude steel and 0.683 mt saleable steel, corresponding to 112 per cent, 112 per cent and 122 per cent of the rated production capacity, respectively.
A number of units in the finishing mills of the steel plant also achieved their best-ever performance during the period.
This includes production of 1,58,579 tonnes of plates, 5,49,211 tonnes hot rolled coils (total), 1,08,390 tonnes hot rolled plates and 21,299 tonnes of electric resistance weld (ERW) pipes.
With a view to improve profitability, RSP had commenced the fiscal with a strategy to maximise the production volumes to bring down the cost of production while also improving the techno-economic parameters.
